Fortnite has taken the video gaming world by storm within the past year. It is easily the number 1 played video game in the world and is setting the stage for the emergence of Esports professional gaming. For causal players like myself it is a fun way to waste time and not think about the 10 page paper due in two days that should most likely be worked on. The game is played like the plot out of the movie Hunger Games, except there is a lot more competition. In the game you only start out with an ax and have to scavenge for materials and weapons to have a chance at building your way to victory. The new gaming format in which players battle is referred to as Battle Royal and has been wildly popular attracting the attention of gaming giants such as the creators of Call of Duty. In this mode its you or you and a few team mates against a lot of other people. Below are the 3 main reasons people love Fortnite.

 

1.Solos

In this game mode you are left to defend yourself against 99 other players. As with the other game modes, you start out with nothing but an ax and have to scavenge to build your arsenal for a chance at a victory royal. This is easily the hardest game mode to win. A lot of the time when you are battling with someone, another player will come in and “3rd party.” This is when somebody is trying to get clean up kills from a player that is already weak.  Having a few wins in this category will surely impress your friends.

 

2. Squads

Squads is a great game mode, probably my favorite one so far. It is the same type of battle royal game style but instead of being by yourself you are apart of a 4 person team. I usually play with some of my good friends, although you can play with random players by hitting the “Fill” option. This mode is really addicting because you can use military tactics and game plans to try and over come the other squads. With the addition of four-wheelers and ATK’s it has allowed players to ride together and do fun tricks and stunts while trying to escape death, all the more reason squads is an attractive game mode selection.

 

3. Event Tournaments

Fortnite now offers event tournaments for regular players to participate in. These event can be found in the EVENTS tab and they allow practice before the actual tournament. People love these because you usually play against good players and that in return increases your skill at the game. You also can win money in these tournaments which is a huge incentive for players to play this mode. You win by having the most points at the end of a multiple game stretch of play. Points are accumulated through the number of kills you get and the place you get within each match.

If you play solos it is you verses 100 people, last man standing wins. This new gaming format is referred to as Battle Royal and has been wildly popular attracting the attention of gaming giants such as the creators of Call of Duty. If you do not have the want to go out and face 99 other determined players by yourself, you can play duos with a friend or squad up with 3 others in the squad game mode. Personally for myself, squad game mode is my favorite, it relaxes some of the stress of being solo. So if you are looking for one of the greatest procrastination tools out there, Fortnite might be for you.
